7 Things We Ate in a Weekend in Manhattan

The hustle and bustle of New York City attracts thousands of tourists to their city streets each day, and last weekend, we were two of them. Here are a few things we ate during our stay in Manhattan!

Chelsea

Chelsea is a diverse neighbourhood on the West Side with plenty of spots to shop and eat.

KazuNori: The Original Hand Roll Bar

Our first stop after getting into Manhattan was KazuNori, a restaurant with bar-style seating that creates and serves delicious sushi hand rolls right in front of you. We each got the 6 Hand Roll Set, which is a great way to test out their menu. The set consisted of toro, yellowtail, salmon, scallop, crab and lobster hand rolls. This place is popular, so be prepared for a wait if you’re visiting during peak dining hours (it’s worth it!)

Los Tacos No.1

Located in the bustling Chelsea Market, Los Tacos No. 1 is an iconic and popular taqueria that serves up decadent tacos filled with your choice of carne asada (grilled steak), pollo asado (grilled chicken), adobada (marinated pork) and nopal (grilled cactus) on top of your choice of corn or flour tortilla, and topped with a generous dollop of guacamole along with a variety of salsas to choose from. Don’t forget to get their horchata to help wash down all that deliciousness!

SoHo/Little Italy/Chinatown

This area in Lower Manhattan has everything you could need for a day of exploration. Start in Chinatown and work your way through Little Italy toward SoHo for some of the city’s most vibrant shopping and dining, from authentic, cheap & cheerful, to more trendy & upscale.

SUGARFISH by sushi nozawa

After having amazing hand rolls at KazuNori the night before, our craving for sushi only intensified so we stopped into SUGARFISH, brought to you by the same group responsible for KazuNori. We tried Nozawa Trust Me, a set menu that provided all the essentials: edamame, followed by a variety of sushi, sashimi, and hand rolls.

Rice to Riches

You’ll find Rice To Riches bordering Little Italy and Chinatown. Serving a huge variety of delicious rice pudding, this is any dessert lover’s dream! The flavours ranged from original to butter pecan, French toast to cookies and cream, it seemed like the flavours went on and on. We ended up opted for 2 solo servings of caramel and coconut. The serving sizes were so massive that we had leftovers for later!

Joe’s steam rice roll

Inside Canal Street Market you’ll find Joe’s Steam Rice Roll specializing in a very popular Cantonese dish: rice rolls, also known as cheung fun. They’remade of a thin rice noodle rolled with meat and vegetables inside, and topped with a choice of a variety of sauces including soy and hoisin.

While in the market, don’t forget to grab a boba bubble tea from Boba Guys!

Times Square

It’s one of the most iconic locations in America and it’s bursting with restaurants and bars — many that will be familiar but there are also some hidden gems!

Cousins Maine Lobster

One of the greatest things about Manhattan is that there are food vendors or food trucks just about every major corner you go. You’ll find a Cousins Maine Lobster outpost in Times Square, and their food trucks throughout the city. We are obsessed with tater tots, so of course we had to get their Lobster Tots. The combo of fresh & crispy tater tots, warm juicy lobster and pico de gallo will change your life.

Flatiron

The Flatiron District, named after the Flatiron Building at 23rd Street, is home to offices & big-box retailers, and it’s a great starting point for dinner, with an outstanding selection of restaurants and bars — and some Michelin stars.

Cote

For dinner we decided we were in the mood for Korean BBQ, and so a good friend recommended us to Cote. This restaurant has earned a Michelin Star, and let me tell you, it sure did live up to their reputation. We got the Butcher’s Feast which came with a selection of the chef’s cuts of meat as well as a table full of Korean accompaniments such as egg soufflé, kimchi and dwen-jang stew just to name a few. The selection of meat was phenomenal and grilled to perfection. My personal favourite being the galbi!
