Date Night in Bangkok: 3 Spectacular Restaurants & Bars
Thailand is known as an affordable travel destination, but if you’re looking for an alternative to the street food scene, it also delivers! Today we’re hitting up restaurants & rooftop bars in Bangkok that make for a perfect date night.
Somtum Der
Our first stop is Somtum Der, and while you’ll find this spot in the Michelin Guide, the prices are still affordable and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. And it’s got a new location in Thong Lor, one of Bangkok’s most bustling neighbourhoods and dining destinations.
Here you’ll find authentic Northeastern Thai dishes. Isan cuisine captures bold flavours that are spicy and salty, served on small plates that are meant to be shared. Make sure to try the somtum papaya salad, and fried chicken!
This really is a great spot to take dates or groups of friends if you’re looking to get away from the heat.
Supanniga Cruise & Supanniga Eating Room
Next up? The Supanniga Cruise for cocktails and light snacks along the Chao Phraya River. There’s also a dinner cruise option offered in the evenings, but today we’re heading to the Supanniga Eating Room, one of Bankok’s favourite Thai restaurants with a riverfront view. Here you’ll find authentic and traditional Thai dishes in a contemporary, relaxed atmosphere.
Distil Bar in Lebua State Tower
Our last stop is Distil, Bangkok’s highest rooftop bar located in the Lebua State Tower. This is the place for views and quirky, inventive cocktails that look and taste great.
Our favourites? Got an Idea, which has two kinds of gin, pineapple, lemongrass, lemon and vanilla. There’s also Up in the Clouds, a bittersweet & spicy cocktail served over cherry ice cubes. And Think Outside the Box, an explosion of sweet, spicy & sour, combining the flavours of cinnamon, vanilla, orange and passion fruit. I think it’s one of the only places you can drink a cocktail out of a box.
Finish off your evening with a sushi platter that is just as impressive as the rooftop views. And if that wasn’t enough for you, Lebua has several other bars to explore, that cater to every taste.
