I belong…the ending of a long journey

I used to hate that phrase ‘we teach what we most need to learn’. But I’m starting to really get it.

More and more it’s happening that I get the sense that there is a gentle spirit in me, that is me, but a quiet, hidden part, that is teaching me and leading me to where I need to go.

One of the biggest lessons I learnt out in Goa, which was a full on life changer for me, was taught to me, unwittingly and unintentionally, by myself. Continue reading

She is my hero – check her out

One of the my greatest heroes is Brene Brown.

Do what I did today – grab a cup of tea and give yourself the time to watch her two TED talks on vulnerability, shame and connection. Even if you’ve watched them before.
The Power of Vulnerability
Listening to Shame
They are the kind of videos that you can watch over and over and over again and get

The day I chose ME and found my way home…

yoga on the beach - goa

I’m writing to you today from London.

I’m not supposed to be here. This wasn’t the plan.
This time last week I was supposed to get on a plane to Canada. I’d had the farewell party, told my friends I wouldn’t be back until the end of the year. I was ready, set and raring to go.

And then everything changed.

So much so that I never caught that flight to Canada. Continue reading

We are creators

We are creators.

All of us.

The only animals that truly dream and bring those dreams to life.

It is our magic. Continue reading

Where do YOUR dreams come from?

There has never been a time in history where those of us lucky enough to be born with a roof over our heads and enough food to eat, have been so free to follow our hearts, live life the way we want to, do what we love and play to our own rules.

We now have the possibility of being the artists of our own lives.

In theory it sounds wonderful, but in practice most people don’t seem to know what to do with this new-found freedom. Continue reading

Why I rebelled and didn’t pick any word this year

I am done with giving my year a word, a focus, a goal.

Don’t get me wrong. It works. Like witchcraft. When you want to pull your life into a different shape, when you know the one you are leading doesn’t suit you, doesn’t nourish your soul, then giving your year a word to play by is a powerful tool. Continue reading

Be a free range human

marianne and me

This week I opened up the sound waves for a jam session with Free Range Human, Marianne Cantwell as she gets ready to launch her long-awaited book ‘Free Range Humans – escape the 9 to 5, do what you love and still pay the bills’.

Listen in as we wax lyrical on what life is like as a free range human (we’re not just beach bums, although beaches do quite often figure in our lives), how a whole new way of working is emerging thanks to technology that we couldn’t have even dreamed of when we were at school – one that gives us enormous opportunity for freedom, creativity and making a difference in the world, one where we no longer have to work from an office and one where we can start up a business and get it out to the world for no money at all. Back to when it all began – my first ever blog post when I quit my job

This week I want to take you back in time and share something with you: my first blog post ever, written just as I had quit my job in the 9 to 5 world of offices and bosses and stood on the threshold of a huge unknown.

I didn’t know what I was going to do, I didn’t know how I was supposed to figure it out, I didn’t know where this journey would take me nor how long it would take. But I had determination and I had faith. The faith was in it being possible and in knowing that I wouldn’t give up, no matter what.

The beauty in looking back at that first blog post is that, while I felt totally lost and clueless as to what I could or would do, I was already doing it. I just didn’t know it yet… Continue reading

Labour of love – have you found yours yet?

Noone told me at school that finding your sense of purpose in life, finding that thing you felt you were born to do, creating a career that just felt totally aligned with who you are and everything that you’re about would be one of the most worthwhile missions I could ever undertake. Noone even told me it was possible.

But I am living proof that it is possible… Continue reading

I don’t really know what the hell I’m doing

mountains painting

This weekend I picked up a paintbrush, strapped two pieces of paper together, squidged out some paint and just went for it. A fearless painting adventure as taught by my art yogini, Connie, of the infamous Dirty Footprints.

I had an idea, a vague picture in my mind of what I was going for, but I didn’t know how I was going to do it or how it was going to turn out.

I had to be willing to make a total hash of it.

I had to step up to that page, hold that brush with confidence and trust.

Trust in me.

And this is what I learnt… Continue reading
